It wasn't long into my teaching career that I became a bit of a black sheep. Sometimes criticized as not teaching yoga the "right" way, but students loved what I offered.

Instead of dwelling on the criticism, it became my super power. I built a loyal following of students who loved my style. It gave me negotiating power with studios and created bigger opportunities for me. I channelled that into a career focused on workshops before eventually buying a struggling yoga studio.

I closed the studio during the pandemic, but if I were to do it over, I would have focused on workshops and class series instead of studio ownership. You can earn just as much as a studio owner with much less headache. You can build something better.
